Project Goals
Through this project, the Duhok Center for Environmental Protection and Mountain Climbing aims to lay a solid foundation for the protection of mountain environments in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. This will be achieved through the implementation of sustainable environmental initiatives that seek to preserve natural ecosystems, raise environmental awareness among local communities and visitors, and promote eco-tourism
Specific Objectives:
1. Raise and promote environmental awareness among the local community and visitors through awareness campaigns, workshops, and educational lectures on the importance of mountain ecosystems and how to protect them.
2. Contribute to the restoration of biodiversity by carrying out organized tree-planting campaigns in ecologically degraded mountain areas, using native species suited to the region.
3. Reduce pollution and waste in mountain areas by organizing regular clean-up campaigns in collaboration with volunteers and the local community, and by establishing a waste management system at mountain tourism sites.
4. Promote sustainable eco-tourism by planning and creating safe, environmentally respectful hiking trails, and by providing visitors with guidelines on how to engage responsibly with nature.
5. Empower the local community by actively involving them in project activities, and offering training and job opportunities in environmental fields, thereby strengthening their role as key partners in conservation and sustainability efforts.
6. Attract local and international technical and financial support for the implementation and long-term sustainability of the project, and build strategic partnerships with environmental and development organizations.
