Duhok Center for Environment Protection and Mountaineering
Introduction
The Mountains of Kurdistan are among Iraq’s most magnificent natural treasures. They are home to rich biodiversity and serve as a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers. However, these areas are currently facing increasing environmental challenges — from the degradation of vegetation cover to the accumulation of waste and pollution caused by unregulated human and tourist activities.
In response, the Duhok Center for Environmental Protection and Mountain Climbing has launched a comprehensive project to protect the region’s mountain environment. The initiative aims to promote a culture of sustainability, engage the community in nature conservation, and transform tourism into a responsible activity that preserves the environment and benefits future generations.
