Duhok Center for Environment Protection and Mountaineering

Introduction The Mountains of Kurdistan are among Iraq’s most magnificent natural treasures. They are home to rich biodiversity and serve as a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers. However, these areas are currently facing increasing environmental challenges — from the degradation of vegetation cover to the accumulation of waste and pollution caused by unregulated human and tourist activities. In response, the Duhok Center for Environmental Protection and Mountain Climbing has launched a comprehensive project to protect the region’s mountain environment. The initiative aims to promote a culture of sustainability, engage the community in nature conservation, and transform tourism into a responsible activity that preserves the environment and benefits future generations

OUR VISIONTHE DUHOK CENTER FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND MOUNTAIN CLIMBING ASPIRES TO BECOME A LEADING AND COMPREHENSIVE ENVIRONMENTAL REFERENCE CENTER IN THE KURDISTAN REGION AND IRAQ—SERVING AS A MODEL IN THE FIELD OF MOUNTAIN ECOSYSTEM PROTECTION AND BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION. THE CENTER AIMS TO CONTRIBUTE TO BUILDING AN ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS SOCIETY CAPABLE OF ACHIEVING A SUSTAINABLE BALANCE BETWEEN HUMAN NEEDS AND THE PRESERVATION OF NATURE. IT SEEKS TO BE AT THE FOREFRONT OF INSTITUTIONS DRIVING THE TRANSITION TOWARD AN ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE BY INTEGRATING LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL EFFORTS AND PROMOTING GREEN INITIATIVES THAT BENEFIT BOTH CURRENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS
